Modern Combatives training at Rule of 3 Martial Arts

Modern Combatives Training

Modern Combatives is a primary focus of Rule of 3 Martial Arts and the applied self-defense component of the broader Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu curriculum. Training emphasizes practical responses, efficient movement, awareness, and the ability to escape or control an immediate threat.

What Students Learn

  • Situational awareness, positioning, and early threat recognition
  • Practical striking and defensive movement
  • Escapes and controls for close-range situations
  • How to create distance and move toward safety
  • Decision-making and composure during controlled pressure drills
  • How to adapt a small group of reliable skills to different situations

How Training Is Structured

Instruction begins with clear mechanics and controlled partner practice. Students then apply the material through progressive drills that add movement, resistance, and decision-making. Training clothes do not require a traditional gi unless an instructor specifies otherwise.

Who It Is For

No previous martial arts experience is required. The program is appropriate for students who want direct, practical self-defense training rather than competition-focused rules. Experienced martial artists can use the material to improve transitions, awareness, and performance under pressure.

Current Class Schedule

Modern Combatives is taught as a core component of the adult Kenpo Jiu-Jitsu classes rather than as a separate class.
