Required Sparring Gear at Rule of 3

Sparring is where we put our training into practice—with control, respect for our partners, and the right equipment. Five types of gear are required: headgear, shin guards, a mouthguard, sparring gloves, and groin protection.

The products below are Rule of 3 Certified Good suggestions. These specific brands and models are optional; you do not have to buy from our shop. Suitable gear you already own is welcome. “Certified Good” is our own designation for gear we have either used or researched.

Loaner sparring gear is available, including padded groin-protection gear in place of a personal cup. Students must bring their own mouthguard. If you choose to wear a cup, bring your own; mouthguards and cups cannot be provided, loaned, or shared. Ask your instructor about loaner availability and fit.

1. Headgear

2. Shin guards

3. Mouthguard

5. Groin protection

COOLOMG Men’s MMA Jockstrap with Athletic Cup includes an athletic cup and an adult men’s supporter with a cup pocket, drawstring waistband, and elastic straps. Choose the appropriate adult size and have your instructor check that the cup stays securely in place without restricting movement. If you choose to wear a cup, bring your own; cups cannot be provided, loaned, or shared. We provide padded groin-protection gear as loaners in place of cups.

TITLE Boxing Deluxe Groin Protector Plus 2.0 in Black

TITLE Boxing Deluxe Groin Protector Plus 2.0 is another groin-protection option, designed to fit under boxing trunks or training shorts. It has a deep padded cup, an adjustable waistband, and two elastic leg straps. Available in Black in Small through X-Large. Ask your instructor to check the fit and suitability for your sparring.

Before you step on the mat

Before sparring, make sure you have all five types of gear. Bring your own mouthguard. For groin protection, use suitable gear you own or our padded groin-protection loaner gear. If you choose to wear a cup, bring your own. Mouthguards and cups cannot be provided, loaned, or shared. Ask your instructor about loaner availability and fit. Check straps and padding for wear and keep gear clean. Your instructor can help check the fit and suitability of equipment you already own. Follow your instructor’s directions for control, contact, and intensity.
