Being pushed, tripped, or knocked down can be scary. It happens fast, and most people do not know what to do once they hit the ground.
The Rule of 3 Martial Arts Push/Fall Defense Program teaches students how to handle that moment safely and calmly.
This program is not about staying on the ground or trying to win a grappling match from the bottom. The goal is much simpler:
Protect yourself. Make room. Get back up. Get away.
Students learn how to fall without reaching back with a straight arm, how to protect their head, and how to recover quickly after impact. From there, they practice using their legs, hips, and hands to keep an attacker from closing in.
One of the first positions students learn is a ground-defense position where they are on their back with one leg up as a shield and the other leg ready to help them move. This helps keep distance, slow the attacker down, and create a safer chance to stand up.
Students also learn what to do when there is not enough room to stand right away. Sometimes they need to push away and create space. Other times, if the attacker is already too close, they may need to hold on briefly, control posture, and stop the attacker from striking effectively. Once it is safe, the student works back to a position where they can stand.
The course includes breakfalls, ground defense, simple guard recovery, technical stand-ups, pressure management, seated defense, and basic drills that help students make decisions under stress. The training starts slowly and safely, then builds toward more realistic movement and resistance.
The main lesson is clear: if you fall, do not panic and do not stay flat. Protect your head, keep your legs between you and the attacker, create enough room to move, and stand up when it is safe.
Push/Fall Defense gives beginners a practical answer to a common self-defense problem:
“What do I do if I get knocked down?”
At Rule of 3 Martial Arts, our answer is simple:
Protect yourself. Make room. Get up. Get away.
